About George
George Khouri is currently a sports announcer for the University of Illinois, with experience in play-by-play, color commentary, sideline reporting, and special features such as interviews and studio analysis. His experience includes both play-by-play and color commentary in four different sports, time in solo, two-man, and three-man broadcast booths, and a proficiency in covering high-notoriety programs.
What started as a longtime hobby became a serious career pursuit for George while at Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, CA. George began covering the program's nationally-ranked and recognized varsity football, men's basketball, and women's basketball teams, and in doing so became part of the first all-student broadcasting crew in school history.
George was the head student broadcaster at Sierra Canyon for two years before deciding on the University of Illinois to continue his academic studies. There, George continues to call the program's NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball, Baseball, Women's Volleyball, and Women's Basketball teams and the men's ACHA Division 1 Hockey team. Through both programs, his games have appeared on the Big Ten Network, B1G+, and the NFHS Network. Notable players in George's calls have included Terrence Shannon Jr., Cassius Stanley, Kenyon Martin Jr., Mackenzie Holmes, Juju Watkins, Amari Bailey, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Bronny James.
George's favorite memories on the mic include the official play-by-play call for the #25 Illinois Men’s Basketball season opener (BTN/B1G+), a senior night rout of rival Paraclete in football, a Top-25 thriller against #6 Indiana in Women's Basketball, an eight-round shootout against rival Ohio in college hockey, and interviewing World Series Champion and former San Francisco Giants reliever George Kontos.
